Special Seasonal Exhibition at The Minster
From Tuesday 3rd December and throughout the Christmas period the Minster will host a spectacular exhibition of paintings by local artist David Tartellin. This show is presented as part of the Art in the Minster and is set to enchant viewers with the Advent themed collection of paintings.
David Tartellin was born in 1929 in Grimsby, spending his formative years in the town until taking up a place at The Slade School of Art in 1947. David studied under the guidance of many of the world’s best and most revered artists and can list names such as Stanley Spencer, Victor Pasmore and Lucien Freud amongst those that offered Slade students their guidance during that time.
David returned to Grimsby in the 1950s to teach art, taking up a post as Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Grimsby School of Art in 1957. David remained in this position until 1987 when he retired from teaching and took up painting full time. David’s work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy, The Society of British artists and The Society of Equestrian Artists, amongst many other venues both in Britain and internationally.
The Advent show at The Minster consists of eight paintings telling the Christmas story in a unique and very personal manner. David Tartellin creates a clear and most accessible narrative in these works, bringing the stories from the New Testament to life in his skilfully executed depictions.
The exhibition will be available until January 6th, please see Grimsby Minster for opening times (Tuesday to Friday 9:30am to 12:30pm and Saturday mornings)
Art in the Minster is a joint project with Our Big Picture and Grimsby Minster
